Privacy Information Statement

Privacy Information Statement

Techmart FZCO ('Techmart', 'we', 'us', 'our') cares about your privacy. This Privacy Information Statement (the ‘PIS’) explains how Techmart, as seller of record, collects and uses your personal data when you make a purchase through the online store at shop.epson.ae ('the Store'). This PIS applies to all customers who purchase or place orders through the Store, regardless of their country of residence. Where the law of your country of residence affords greater protection, that law will apply to the extent required.

For the e-commerce transaction and operation of the Store, Techmart acts as the data controller. This means Techmart determines why and how personal data is processed for account creation, cart management, order processing, payment support, delivery, returns, refunds, tax records and customer service relating to purchases made through the Store.

Epson Middle East FZCO (“Epson”) is a separate and independent data controller in respect of the epson.ae website and your use of that website and personal data that Techmart shares with Epson for marketing, customer analytics, and customer support purposes — as described in the ‘Third-party sharing’ section below. For more information on how Epson processes your personal data, go to Epson’s own Privacy Information Statement, available at https://www.epson.ae/legal/privacy (the “Epson PIS”).

Where Epson Middle East FZCO provides technical, operational, warranty coordination or customer support assistance to Techmart in connection with the Store, Epson acts as Techmart’s processor and processes personal data only on Techmart’s documented instructions, unless Epson uses the data for its own separate purposes as described below.

What personal data Techmart collects and holds

Personal data is any information relating to an identified or identifiable living person. Techmart collects and holds the following categories of your personal data when you place an order, make a payment, create or use an account, add products to your cart, or contact us through the Store:

  • Identity and Contact Data: customer account identifiers, full name, delivery address, billing address, email address, and telephone number.
  • Financial Data: payment method type, billing address, payment status, refund status and related payment support information. Full card details are processed directly by our payment service provider and are not stored by Techmart. Billing address is retained for VAT compliance purposes.
  • Transaction Data: products and services ordered, order values, order history, applicable tax invoices, and records of any returns, refunds, or cancellations.
  • Technical Data: IP address at the time of order, for fraud prevention and territory verification purposes.
  • Account and Store Activity Data: account login details, account preferences, cart contents, saved products, product interest, Store search activity, browsing interactions on the Store, refunds and returns correspondence and order status information.
  • Consent and Preference Data: marketing consent status, communication preferences, cookie or analytics preferences, and records of any withdrawal of consent.

Purpose for Techmart processing your personal data

The primary purpose for which Techmart processes your personal data is the performance and recording of sales transactions through the Store, including:

  • Processing and fulfilling your product and service orders
  • Issuing applicable tax-compliant electronic invoices
  • Arranging and tracking delivery to your specified address
  • Processing returns, cancellations, and refunds
  • Directing customers seeking CoverPlus extended warranty registration to the relevant section of the Epson website (epson.ae), where CoverPlus registration is managed directly by Epson
  • Storing your order history and account preferences so you can save time on future purchases and track your order status

Techmart also processes your personal data for the following secondary purposes:

  • Fraud prevention, order verification, and sanctions screening
  • Complying with applicable tax, consumer protection, anti-money-laundering, and data protection laws in each country where Techmart operates or processes transactions
  • Establishing, exercising, or defending Techmart’s legal rights

Moreover, Techmart may use tools offered by advertising partners (e.g. Google) on the Store which may recognise your devices and deliver advertisements to you. The information may include your device ID, your IP address and information about your browser or operating system, Store browsing activity, product interest, cart activity, order-related events, or other identifier in encrypted form. The information may be processed by the providers of these advertising tools for targeting of advertising on other websites or services. This section applies only to tools used on the Store. Any analytics, cookies or advertising tools used on epson.ae are governed by Epson’s separate website privacy and cookie notices. The legal basis for this is your specific consent. You may withdraw your consent to this additional purpose at any time through the relevant cookie or preference settings, where available, or by writing to Techmart at the contact information provided below.

Techmart uses a cookie consent management tool on the Store. You may manage your cookie and tracking preferences at any time by clicking ‘Cookie Settings’ in the Store footer. Where you have consented, Techmart may use Google Analytics (including, where applicable, the User-ID feature which links your account activity to your browsing behaviour across sessions) and Google Ads for advertising and measurement purposes. Raw personal identifiers such as your email address or phone number are never transmitted directly to Google Analytics. You may withdraw or amend your cookie consent at any time via the Cookie Settings link.

Legal basis for holding your personal data

A) Performance of a contract — for order processing and fulfilment

The primary legal basis for Techmart’s processing of your personal data is that it is necessary for the performance of the contract of sale between you and Techmart. This covers processing for order fulfilment, payment, delivery, and after-sales support.

B) Compliance with legal obligations

Techmart processes certain personal data (including transaction records and tax invoices) because it is required to do so by applicable law.

C) Legitimate interests

Techmart processes certain personal data (including fraud prevention, security monitoring, and maintenance of accurate transaction records) on the basis of its legitimate interests, where those interests are not overridden by your rights and freedoms.

D) Specific consent given by you in other cases

If you choose to give information beyond that which Techmart requires you to provide (for example, by participating in optional surveys or preference settings), or if you consent to optional analytics, advertising tools or opt-in sharing with Epson Middle East FZCO for marketing purposes, the basis for processing that information is your consent as demonstrated by your voluntarily providing it. You have the right to withdraw that consent at any time by contacting Techmart at the details below or by using any available cookie or preference settings.

Automated processing, profiling and decision-making

Techmart carries out the following automated processing of your personal data. Where this produces legal or similarly significant effects on you, you have the rights set out in the 'Your rights' section below.

(a) Fraud scoring and territory verification — Techmart automatically assesses fraud risk and verifies your geographic territory using indicators such as your order history, IP address, billing and delivery details, payment method, and transaction value. This may result in an order being paused, flagged for review, or declined. The legal basis is Techmart's legitimate interests in fraud prevention, AML compliance, and operating an accurate sales platform.

(b) Marketing segmentation and abandoned cart identification (consent-based) — Where you have separately consented, Techmart shares your profile, order history, and cart data with Epson for marketing segmentation and personalised communications, including reminders about incomplete purchases. No marketing communication will be sent unless your consent is active and you are not on the suppression list. The legal basis is your consent, which you may withdraw at any time as described in the 'Third-party sharing' section.

(c) Your rights — For any automated decision that significantly affects you, you have the right to request human review, express your point of view, and contest the outcome. Contact Techmart at the details in the 'Contacting Techmart' section.

If, in the future, Techmart wishes to process your data for some other purpose, it will first provide you with information about that other purpose.

How long Techmart will hold your data

For order and transaction data Techmart will hold your personal data relating to your purchase for a period of five (5) years from the date of the transaction. After that time, some information may be held but only in an anonymised form or as part of archived records.

Personal data transferred to Epson for marketing purposes is retained by Epson in accordance with Epson’s own retention schedule, available in the Epson PIS. Techmart will propagate any requests it receives from you to Epson to ensure your rights are realised.

Where you are located in Turkey, certain commercial and transaction records may be subject to retention requirements of up to ten (10) years under the Turkish Commercial Code and related tax legislation. For customers in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, certain records may be retained for up to six (6) years in accordance with Saudi VAT regulations.

Personal data may be held for longer periods where extended retention periods are required by law or regulation and in order to establish, exercise, or defend Techmart’s legal rights.

Account data is retained for as long as your Store account remains active, and for a reasonable period thereafter where necessary for account administration, dispute handling, fraud prevention or legal compliance.

Consent and preference records are retained for as long as necessary to evidence your choices and comply with applicable data protection, consumer protection and marketing laws.

Third-party sharing

Techmart shares your personal data with the following categories of third parties:

  • Payment service providers, who process payment card and transaction data to complete your purchase. These providers operate under their own privacy policies. Techmart does not collect or store your payment details but may receive and retain payment status, transaction references, refund status and related payment support information.
  • Logistics and delivery partners, who receive your name, delivery address, and telephone number solely for the purpose of fulfilling your order.
  • Epson, for the purpose of arranging support, warranty registration (including CoverPlus registration), and authorised service centre referrals. Where data is shared with Epson for these purposes, Epson acts as a data processor on behalf of Techmart.
  • Authorised Epson service centres, for warranty assessment, repair, and after-sales support.
  • Tax authorities where required for VAT and tax compliance.
  • Fraud prevention, sanctions screening, and credit-risk services.
  • IT and platform service providers who support the operation and maintenance of the Store.
  • Professional advisers (lawyers, accountants, auditors), under confidentiality obligations.
  • Regulatory and law enforcement authorities, where required by applicable law.

Where you have consented to receive marketing communications from Epson and to analytics tracking, Techmart will share the following personal data with Epson as an independent data controller: your name, email address, telephone number, country, city, marketing consent status and consent record (including the version of consent wording agreed, date and time of consent, and consent source), together with your order history, Store browsing, product interaction data, cart information, and account status. This data is used by Epson to perform marketing segmentation, send you personalised communications, and measure campaign performance. You may provide or withdraw this consent at any time: (i) at account registration via the consent tick-box on the Store; (ii) from your account profile settings; (iii) by clicking the unsubscribe link in any Epson marketing communication; or (iv) by contacting Techmart at the details below. Withdrawal of consent will be reflected in the data feed to Epson and your profile will be suppressed from future campaigns.

Third parties acting as processors (processing data on Techmart’s instructions) are bound by appropriate data processing agreements and are permitted to use disclosed data only for the purposes for which Techmart holds your data.

Cross-border transfers

Your personal data may be transferred to and processed in countries other than your country of residence. Where such transfers occur, they are protected by appropriate contractual safeguards, including Data Processing Agreements with Techmart's service providers. Where required by the law of your country of residence, your consent at registration also forms part of the applicable transfer framework.

Where you have consented to marketing, your data is transferred to Epson database, hosted on Microsoft Azure servers in the Netherlands (European Economic Area), which provides a high level of data protection. Logistics and IT service providers may also receive limited personal data solely as necessary to fulfil your order.

Data Security

Techmart has security measures in place to protect your information and prevent your personal data from being accidentally lost, used or accessed in an unauthorised way, altered or disclosed, including encryption of data in transit, access controls, and regular security assessments. Access to your personal data is limited to those employees, agents, contractors, and other third parties who need to know it for the processing purposes described in this statement.
